Advent Calendar Presents

advent christmas presents

We are doing Christmas presents a bit different this year, as we are not going to be with our family this christmas, we have decided to give advent presents instead of Christmas presents.
In Denmark there are two different kind of advent calendars, there is the one that is from 1-24 December and there is the one which is the four Sundays before Christmas.
We are doing a few of each this year and wanted to share some of the presents I bought as they would also make great smaller presents or host gifts.

Hotel Chocolat’s Advent Calendar Truffles for Two is obviously one to give before the first of december, but I think this makes a great first Sunday in advent presents for parents, as it most often lands on the last sunday in november.

A cookbook is also a great choice for anyone who loves cooking and the A Bird in The Hand by Diana Henry has literally captivated me and I have found myself looking through this as a coffee book a few evenings now, so also had to get it for my self and can’t wait to start cooking ALL the recipes.
£5-20 (depending on where you get it).

Last year I bought a 100 piece puzzle to do between christmas and new years. Doing a puzzle while christmas music is on, a lot of mulled cider being consumed and most important, having a lot of lovely conversations and laughs, is probably one of my best christmas memories of all time.
So for someone who might be into doing a puzzle, I found this great yearly christmas puzzle from Gibsons.

My mother-in-law loves anything filled with dried fruit and nuts, so I thought the small Heston Christmas pudding with a hidden clementine would be a great gift.

And for the father-in-law it has become a bit of a tradition to give him the annual vintage ale from Fuller’s and he almost got really upset a year he thought he wasn’t getting it, so think this one is a sure winner every year.

Last year I posted a recipe for homemade mulled extract, click here for the recipe, and had the idea of packing up the spices for a make your own mulled extract present. Adding a label with instructions on what to ad and how to on the back.
I am going to pair this with a few bottle of the Waitrose Duchy Organic Herefordshire vintage cider, as I think this works really well as a mulled cider.
£2.09 per bottle of cider.

I think a selection of some Fortnum and Mason Christmas goodies is a great choice for a last sunday in advent present, this way the recipient has something a little bit extra special for the Christmas days. I went for the Mulled Wine and Gold Leaf Preserve, Christmas Almond and Cranberry Biscuits and a small bottle of port, but to be honest most of the products from the Christmas line sounds delicious.
